Upon completion of my music video, Dodie Clark did an interview on the Genius Youtube Channel, where she simply explained her own interpretations of the lyrics to Party Tattoos. Obviously, this would have been really useful if it was released before I constructed my research and planning, but I am happy to hear that most of my interpretations about the lyrics were correct.
Clark simply explains that the main concept of the music video is based off one of her friends coming in from a party covered in bruises, which she then claims are 'party tattoos'. The start of the video is simply about getting ready for a party, counting down the hours and minutes, which I mirrored in my own music video. I interpreted the 'scrubbing smooth young skin' lyrics as washing away regrets almost, but in fact Clark explains that it's showing appreciation for young skin, which she then juxtaposes with 'wrinkled up skin'.
She explains later on in the song, her mother gives her advice that she doesn't really listen to as she wants to be her free own person at the time.
Later on, the 'postcard' section is her way of depicting her memories. She compares her memories of her youth with her recent memories in the modern day.
