This is my final poster for the Party Tattoos album. I wanted the colours to be quite fun and to reflect the mood of the music video and album. I am really happy with how the photos came out for the poster as I think the sunset really compliments the atmosphere. However, due to the sunset being quite pink in colour, I had to slightly edit the tones of the front album cover and make it more pink. I think that the composition of the photograph is interesting as the artist is staring at her own album.
I was debating whether to have the font colour as white or black as the writing on my album cover is white. However, I found that when I used a white font, it often blended into the background base image, making it quite hard to read. Therefore, I ended up having a black font. I studied previous posters such as Panic at the Disco's, Oasis' and Ed Sheeran's to gather a general idea of what context should be placed upon an album poster. Often, the artist's name and album name is quite large on the page to grab immediate attention of a potential target audience. Usually, people will be interested in upcoming albums if they are produced by their favourite artists. I also made sure that the release date of the album was quite clear on the poster so that it builds up suspense and also so that the target audience are aware when to expect the artist's new music.
Another important detail was the critic's comments. I selected the best reviews and comments of the album as it would increase the album sales. An interesting aspect of the critic's comments is that there isn't any proper punctuation. I thought that this would help amplify the fact that the artist is quite indie and unique. It was important that I added a star rating to the poster as well as this is most likely what the viewer's leading eye would draw towards. Adding extra information such as the source where I got the reviews and comments from was vital as well because potential audiences might want to read a full review of the album before buying as well. An important code and convention that I identified from previous posters is that they usually display previous 'hits' by the artist. These are normally well known singles that have previously been released by the artist. Therefore, people might recognise the songs and if they like them they will potentially be more likely to buy the album.
Not all album posters have an image of the CD cover. However, I think it is nice to visually be able to see what the viewer could possibly be buying. So, it was important that the album cover and poster integrated. Other important aspects included where audiences could listen to the music. Music is so widely streamed on platforms such as Spotify and Itunes within the modern day. Drake's 'Once Dance' track has received 882 million streams alone on Spotify. I think that that online streaming adds an additional platform for artists and makes their music more widely available. Another obvious feature was the record label. Dodie Clark isn't actually signed to a record label, so I created her own for her.
